Its all over now:(
Time to tell us about the ride, the good and the bad . Post your pictures tell us your stories.
The B route was a little harder this year, but we tried to keep in in mind how many KLR 650 riders wanted to challenge their equipment, so we made sure that with a little effort a 650 dual sport could make it. How did we do?
Roll charts, OK or is there a better way? when commenting here please remember we ribboned and charted over 500 kms of back-roads andtrail. Thats a lot even for a road ride.
Pot Pond Road Bypass............I liked it, did you?
Too Hard.........Too EZ..........Too Long?
The location?
Anything you want to tell us post it here.
Post your pics here http://www.dualsportbc.com/photogallery/showgallery.php?cat=703
Important
Please post your photos in the right Photo Gallery, just trying to keep thinks in order for next year

The ride was AWSOME:tup:
Thanks to Tom and everyone that routed out the corse, and set up the while event:clap::clap:
The first tough section gave me a prety good work out, I thought to my self that there's no way I could do 200k of this and come out in one peice. Just then the trail opend up/forums/images/emoticons/party-smiley-017.gifdr (#):">
Looking fwd to next year already.:hf:
The only problem with the event was the trail etiquette of one group of riders.
We rolled up to 2 different sections where there was a back log of riders because there was trouble on the trail ahead. Riders were stuck on hills and as we pulled up there was an 8 rider group waiting at the bottom in a line and we were a 5 bike group. We got our place in line as the downed rider picked up his bike and was about to try to finish the hill. A group of 5 or soclowns pulled up, saw us there and riped past and tried to make the hill...ends up 3 or 4 of them were prety crappy riders and they hit each other and all flipped their bikes and flew off the trail. The rest of us(about 13 bikes)sat at the bottom shaking our heads while these guys continued trench up the hill. It was shortly after that they were passed again. It was prety funny.....they wanted to be in front soo bad that they even abandoned one of their riders(that dr350 that was always broke down and smelled like gas), as we came into the clearing. Luckily One of our riders stayed with him untill he was able to get his bike going. This scenario happened twice, and they gave noroom to overtaking riders.
Oh well.......the weekend was great. CYA next year at the DZ08
heres a pic of one of2 "Circus" members:mad2:
ps. The hill was really easy:ted:

The hard sections I rode were a blast! The ride was long, but not too long IMO. The roll charts were very helpful, although the Mine Trail section was hard to find, everything else about the chartswas great. The amount of work to create those roll charts must have been huge. Thank you!

Had a blast. All in all it was a good day. The was my first Dead zone ride, everyone should do the ride you don't know whet your missing.
Here are my beefs.
A few ***holes should learn some manners. We spent 10 minutes building a log bridge to get over the mud hole the KTM was stuck in(Sixgills picture). I asked everyone to walk their bike over it. The first jerk rode over it smashing it up for the rest of us.
I was at the hill joker650 was talking about. Floored dumped his bike and along came the next set of jerks. One guy almost ran him over the next guy wiped out almost hitting him. All they needed to do was wait a few minutes for him to get up the hill.
Going up to the fire lookout guys would pass you going thru a mud puddle at high speed covering you from head to toe in mud
Next time could the **holes learn a little respect or stay home
I would say 95% of the rider were good guys That would help out and wave you on when it was safe to pass

A big thanks to Tom, Mark and everyone else who put together this years DZ. The amount of time, energy and organizingwas awesome. It showed big time. I hope this event continues as it shows how much those who belong to this site love this sport. Thanks to some of the "A" riders for thier patience and help at the wet bridge in the morning. (I was having major brain farts) No thanks to those who triedeverything to get in front of the bigger bikes only to be passed down the trail time and time again. The two jerks who slammed between the 950KTM rider and the tree, while he was wrestling his bike in the mud pit, were lucky he didn't yank you off your bikes and plant you head first in the mud. He was big enough to do it. Kudos to him for a laid back attitude.
Thanks to all the sponsors for thier support. I can see the Deadzone getting bigger every year. I think thatthis is something more companies will want to be aligned with in the future.
It's too bad some rides got hurt but with a group this large it's bound to happen.(law of average)
A few lessons learned this year. Don't start the hard route with a hangover and #2 When someone is hurt on the trail and a decision is made, stick with it. It will save a lot of time, pain and confusion.
I hope to see you all at this first class event next year.(on a smaller bike)
Dave :hb::tup:
My hat goes off to all guys that put this event on! This was my firstDZ and what a blast. I can see how much time and effort goes into this, good food, great accommodations and awsome ride!I will defiantly be back... And for the guys that ride the big bikes through some of that's stuffhttp://www.bcsportbikes.com/forum/images/smilies/thumbup.gif, you guys are hardcore. Thanks Dave from Gnarly Parts for breakfast...
I hope the guy that crash on the KLR is alright! Hope for a speedy recovery!
Tom,Iwould like to help out for next year with the B & A loop for sure.... Thanks again for the great event! Shayne

Thanks to the organizers. What fun and alot of work for the KLR.
About a 1/3 of the way through the "B" route in the morning I sheared off the left foot peg on a stump inthe single track.
Claude offered to stay with me but I thought I could make it backon my own. I headed towards a valley bottom and guess who I ran into, the dredded RANCHER. :hr:The one that will SHOOT YOU!!!:shoot:There was no way I was going through his ranch land, even though he said it was the quickest way back to the pavement.
So, my next thought was to return to Spences Bridge. I tried and got totally lost. Ran into some tree planters and almost hit a bear. So, after some further panic, decided to return to the main road.Just as I approached, a couple of riders passed by. It turned out to be the B route sweepers. Lucky me!! :hf:
Arriving in Cache Creek I spotted a Lordco: Bolts, washers and eazy outs were purchased. All I was missing was a drill bit and a drill. Down the road to Kal Tire and for $20.00 I hadthe sheared bolts removed and a$20.00 thank-youfor the boys that helped out in the back for beer.
The foot peg was back on by 11:00 am.
Looking forward to next year. :)

What a wicked event. The B route was by far the best yet, and the weather couldn't have been better. The by-pass at Pot Pond Rd. was excellent....the mud holes were still there and still fun as hell. To the fellow on the yellow WR who was riding like an A$$ (as well as his buddy on the blue WR) it was poetic justice to see you get really stuck trying to go through PPR without doing the bypass.....it made my laugh...thanks:clap:
The new campsite was WAYYYYY better than the old one, and the whole event was run first class from the very start. A big thank you to all the sponsors, and to Tom, Neil, Sharron, Mark, and everyone else who did their part. Pencil me in again for next year....I will not miss it for anything:hb:
.....rest up Lars, you're one tough bugger.

Thanks to Tom, Mark, Sharron, the sponsors, and all the Islanders who gave me a great way to celebrate 1 year of having my bike plated (July 5, 2006). Hard to believe the bike & I made it a year. Those who saw the “New” tire I had to change out at the campground know we almost didn’t ( Thank you Robert from MTR for having a tire available to save my ride, and Speed2101 & Scotty905 for showing me how to change it and other technical advice).
but I digress,
The “Zone” was great.
While I could’ve done without the dust, the 3 riders that many are talking about, and Roscopcoletrain’s beers the night before the morning ride home, it was still great.
If there was anything more that I’d like to see, it would be more stuff like the Monkey Wrench offered. That’d be more icing on the cake.

Another great Deadzone... this is why I reserve this weekend a year in advance to avoid conflict with other activities... it is not to be missed.
I love the country in there and the ride to and from the event. I can't think of a better way of spending the Canada day long weekend seeing some of the amazing scenery this country has to offer.
Thanks to everyone involved in putting the event on, the new start location is much nicer. I liked the new "dead zone" trails.
There were alot of riders this year and it felt at times like rush hour in the city waiting to have your go at whatever obstacle was next. Not sure of a way to bypass it other than maybe spread the start out a bit longer so the groups spread out more. Put the technical tight stuff further into the ride to create more spacing. As it was we rolled out at about 7:30 and thought we would be more clear of other groups.(nope). We had a longer lunch break at Cache creek to let most of the other groups go which worked well for us in the PM as we were by ourselves most of the time.
The help at the bridge/wall combo was much needed, sorry for spraying the guys TE with muck getting my xr turned around, man did I mess that section up..Also thanks for the tips getting it started at the top of the hill, gotta love the kickstart...
There were a few that seemed hell bent to get to the front (at all the wrong places), not sure what the rush was for as it seemed like a friggen game of leap frog after a while.
I would gladly pay a couple more $$ more to have a sat phone rented for the weekend that would sit with the "sweeper". It would have made the situation on Finney a little more straightforward as we could have had made contact with the right resources a little quicker.
Sign me up for next year....

Hey all, I too would like to say a BIG THANK-YOU to all the members that spent the time scouting and clearing trail, ribboning and doing up the roll charts.(YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE:clap: )I'd also like to say a BIG thanks to -sorry but can't recall the name - the guy with the banged up knee that helped me out with gas the morning of, wouldn't have been going anywhere without your help.I rode over from the monkey wrench site in the morning and the gas station in lytton wasn't open yet-went on reserve about 25 k from spences bridge,I was literally on fumes when I got to the campground, that was cutting it close. But once again, thanks to the great members here , it all worked out:tup:.And last but definately not least-thanks to Gnarly Dave (Dave Chow of http://www.gnarlyparts.ca/ -excellent prices+service, and a knowledgeable guy,) for the breakfast spread,I REALLY needed some hot coffee that morning!cheers Dave!
The A options were great , not crazy but enough to make ya sweat :), thanks to the two guys that helped me get my pig outta the ditch-(note to self-slow down a bit when cresting abrupt hills-there may be a corner on the down side, lol.) did'nt catch your names but -THANKS! I found the ribboning to be good,I did the ride without using a roll chart,(busted odo) just a couple of spots where there was some confusion(clearcut being one,but as i understand it -someone had messed with the ribbons there??) but there was always someone that knew which way to go , so -no problem! I did actually missed the mine trail, too bad -I heard later it was excellent! I'll get it next year.
Becuse I did'nt stay at the campsite , I did'nt have the oppurtunity to meet too many of the other members, but the handfull I met throughout the ride were great , and saw some familiar faces from some of last years rides which was good to see. You know its a good time when everyone is smiling and joking , even when their bike is sinking to China, lol.
SO- I can't say enough good things about this event, fun, fun, fun, GREAT JOB EVERYBODY!!!:tup::tup::tup::tup::tup::tup::tu p::tup::tup:
Good to see you all, count me in for next year!

Thanks to everyone who must have worked so hard to make my first dual sport ride so fantastic. Hope not too many people were angered by my KTM. Being a map whore (didn't even know what a roll map was before the ride) helped me to meet some greatriders like Guy and many others. Hope Lars has a speedy recovery...his bike looked none the worse for wear. Here is a nice momento of that event.

I am posting this here because it was the B route that ran past the Brand 88 Ranch.
I just finish a long phone conversation with the manager of the Brand 88 ranch. I would have to say I was please with the overall tone of the call. Some good news and some bad news. Like I always say "gotta take the good with the bad". The ranch managerseemed very reasonable and I think will be an importantcontactfor the future of this area. He and I agreed to meet this fall and discuss next years routesfor the event.
Lets start with the bad
No you cant ride throughthe property, He in turn will not ask to ride through yours.
Gates, this one is very important. If they are closed or have a sign that sez keep closed. Close the gate. Make sure theGate is closed, go back and check. Close the Gate, Close the Gate, Close the Gate, Close the Gate, I don't know how many times this has to be said. We had a problem with gates being left open this year and in previous years. If we want to keep this area open we (everyone) have to "Close the Gates" :mad3:enough said
Prospector Trail. This area is out of bounds. Erase this from your memory. Ministry of Forrest sez no go.I will ask for special permission if I can be sure that the Gates will be closed.
The Good News
Emergencies, No problemwith help here, got a phone and will help. But a flat tire, no gas, lost, broken foot-peg, dead bike etc, does not constitute an emergency. So don'tbother anyone at the ranch. Just go back the way you came.
I think we will have a good working relationship with the local ranchers tokeep the area open.
Openly admitsthat we are not a bad bunch and would like to be pro active.
So lets make sure to keep these guys happy withus:ted:.

I agree.
The problem I noticed when going through a gate , another group of riders would show up so we would leave their first man in charge. Some gates got passed from group to group.Hopefully the gates got closed after the last rider..
