BIKE HAS BEEN FOUND!!!!

Fellow by the name of Niclariv pm'd me yesterday and offered to walk around and search with me. He popped by the place tonight, and I wanted to do a thorough scan of my block first... because sometimes it's right under your nose. Well, it was. We checked directly across the street.. two apartment building lots... then went back to my side of the road.. and RIGHT NEXT DOOR.. I saw it behind a car and just yelped! I ran over and almost went into a mild hysteria. Nic called the cops.. and they actually DIDN'T SHOW UP! We waited on the street for 35 minutes.. then called back on the non emergency line. While talking to the operator, we saw a cop car coming up the street. Well, it wasn't the cop car we were waiting for.. they were very confused when we flagged them down.. but they pulled up the file and broke the news to me that there's absolutely nothing they can/will do to track this guy down or improve the level of monitoring on my high-risk street.

All in all... it's just so unbelievable. I don't even know what else to say other than LOCK YOUR BIKE UP MORE THAN YOU THINK IS NECESSARY and ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS GO OUTSIDE WHEN THE ALARM GOES OFF!!!

Im in the security business, after reading this story and telling to my staff, all I can say is that we are all speachless:wi:here. I dont know what I would do if I were in your shoes.

It was fantastic toread such good news. Very glad you got your bike back! Was there any damage? Also wondering is it insured for theft? I once had a new bike (Honda 750-4) stolen in Vancouver and never saw it again... but ICBC paid out 100% at the time...

The cops should havefound it before you did but obviously stolen propertydoes not even rate on their priority list. Good for you and your friend.. :tup:

I had a bike stolen 6 or 7 years ago. A little more than a month went by before it was located, but the police did eventually find it. Insurance had paid it out by then anyhow, but the point being that it's not always ignored by the cops...

The justice system lets them go. Why bother working if you get no results

Usually they're too bust harassing someone for improper plate mounts or signals instead of trying to catch criminals

After having my last bike stolen from my carport, in full daylight, while my neighbor watched, I park mine in my workshop, locked up and out of sight.Ifbike thieves suffered the full consequencesfor their actions maybe less bikes would be stolen. I personally am not impressed with my local Constabulary's ability to prevent drug dealers from plying their trade every day, in broad daylight in this small town,andI'd speculate that a lot of property crimes are drug related, soooo..... do the math.

That being said, we don't all live with adequate places to store our toys, so, do we buy theft insurance? OUCH!!! And then fight with the insurance co.? Or lock it up,which really only slows the pros down a bit.

I support "Take a Bike Thief for a Ride" day, how 'bout twenty feet of chainhanging off your rear fender with the thief on the other end, and if he can figure out how to get on theseat with you doinga "brisk" pace down your favorite road or trail, take him for a ride to the nearest recycling station and throw them in, maybe you'll get a decent human being back.

Can you tell I strongly dislike bike thieves?
