Some of you might remember our Big Trip from last year (well, big to us noobies anyway).

http://www.dualsportbc.com/forums/view_topic.php?id=7389&forum_id=11

Always gluttons for punishment, Hammy and I did it again this last season.Being a couple of prairie boys, we couldn't resist another run out to BC. This time all the way to Tofino. We hit a fewbumps along the way, and managed to catch most of them on camera. We did our best to balance-outseeing as much as we could (distance-wise), and trying to stay away from the main highways (or any highways if possible), and I think so far the videos are turning out pretty good.I'm about halfway through editing them and here's what I've finished so far:

Day1 (part1)

Day1 (part2)

Day2 (part1)

Day2 (part2)

Day3 (part1)

Day3 (part2)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=boELvcln9LQ

Day4 (part1)

Day4 (part2)

Day5

Day6 (part1)

Day6 (part2)

And that's as far as I've gotten so far. I hope to have Day 7 edited and posted in early Jan. I hope you like them.

Thanks Pope! Editing the video has been excellent winter bike-therapy for me. Not as good as actually riding of course, but re-living the trip is the next best thing. Wait'll I tell my Grandmother The Pope likes my videos!

Can't wait to see the Day 7 etc videos. They really help with the winter blues. What campground did you stay in Tofino? The government one is always full and most of the private ones are just a field filled with RV's. The one you stayed at looked pretty good and I would like to put it on my list of places to camp in the future.

Where are you heading next year?

We stayed at the Long Beach campground just a little outside Tofino .A great campground for tenters. We had heard it was tough to get a site in Tofino so in a rare bit of foresight,we had actually made a reservation a few weeks ahead of time. I'll ask Hammy if he remembers the road address. I don't, but can recall it was near the Long Beach golf course and the local airstrip. I'm working on Day 7 right now, but it's slow going with the holiday craziness and all. Nothing is set in stone for BT2010, but the idea of an adventure down to Yellowstone has been tossed around a few times. Thanks for the feedback!

Thanks. Don't bother looking up the campground, I already found it on the 'net. Looking forward to the next chapter of your ride report

brrr a shiver just zapped me, yellowstone, yikes, "squirrel!" schreech! everything and everyonestops, the roads AROUND yellowstone, amazing! passed around 500 harleys one day in a crazy storm on a way twisty road for a couple of hours, me all waterproofed and electrifiedup, them all with no fenders and vests on @10km/per. The chief joseph hwy. so good, I crossed all the across wyoming just to do it againon a dry day, crazy fun, dumps you on the sawtooth pass rd, paved esses pilled on each other, dead snakes everywhere from broken necks rounding the corners, which drops you down into red lodge, which gives more twisties at a faster pace, hours of fun, did I mention the multiple 10k thou ft continental divide crossings. but yellowstone, brrrww.

Ya, that's what we've heard. I've spent enough time in Banff and Jasper to be used to the tourists slamming on the brakes to take pictures of gophers and magpies, and we hear Yellowstone is about the same. We're hoping to mitigate that somewhat by heading out there mid-June. Hopefully there will only be tens-of-thousands of RVs instead of the hundreds-of-thousands in July/August. I'm now going to see if we can add the Chief Joseph highway to our route as well.

With your biking around Jasper, have you found any neat roads or routes that you can recommend?

Thanks.

Ive' never really veered off the highway in Jasper. I'm ususally travelling through Jasper. I've heard the road to Maligne Lake/Maligne Canyon is something to see.

Awesome videos and awesome trip.

But you know.....two dudes...one tent.....if you replace the bikes with horses you've got Brokeback Mountain.....not that there's anything wrong with that, I'm just saying...

Seriously, I've got a Vstrom, my buddy has a Versys, I'm a DS rider, he wants to do some off road, (we each ownour own tent ;)) so this trip/video is right up our alley.

Gang Ranch was on my list to do on my DRZ as part of a China Head pass ride, but maybe on the Strom on a Bella Coola ride would be better. And Nickel Plate is definitely on the 2010 itinerary.

Now you've got me thinking about a helmet cam. What did you use and what type of mounts do you have?

Thanks for sharing you journey with us. I look forward to the final few videos.

Ya ya....I'veheard the Brokeback comments before :? We were both hoping the weight/room savings of having to bring only one tent would outweigh the childish comments from our buddies....sigh...we were wrong. We're going with with seperate tents next year.:) For camera gear, we each usea Samsung SC-x video cams (they come with an external lens or helmet-cam attachment) and those prettymuch take care of any video. For stills I have a little Sony Cybershot while Hammy has the full-on digital SLR. His is a Cannon MkII. Next year we'll have all that gear again, but I'm adding an HD helmet cam into the mix (Vholdr ContourHD), and Hammy is adding a smaller still cam (Cannon G-11). Thanks for watching!
