I am going to keep this short and expand on this as I have time (I have a real job too)
The whole Chilliwack River Valley is under attack again, with the proposal of closing the Trans Canada Trail to any motorized use. At first glance this does not seem like a big problem. The TCT runs strait thru the middle of the Church Riding area Liumchen FSR then Mcguire before it carries on to Chilliwack Lake.
The Trans Canada Trail is stewarded by the Trails Society of British Columbia also know as Trails BC. Their mandate is non motorized trails. At this time they have no signs of willing to work with any motorized groups or even acknowledge them. See this link http://www.trailsbc.ca/news.html in fact spend a little time on their site, the work they do is commedable but they are not in step with the times.
What does closing this section of the TCT mean to ORV users. for us DSBC'rs it will mean the end to the Noobie Ride, most of the Noobie is along the Liumchen FSR which is a restricted access section of FSR, it wont take much to close it completley. That will effectively cut off our access to most of our routes and trails in this area.
For Mcguire area users, mostly ATV and 4x4s, with a good mix of bikes. We will be cut off to a lot off accessable trails for the novice and intermediate users (read as family)
There is no doubt that we as motorized users are not taking as much care as we should be in this area. The wholesale closing of the TCT will unfairly affect us as users. There needs to be a consultive process with all the user groups. The problem now is Trails BC will not budge from their "non motorized for all trails in BC"
We as off road vehicle users of this area must not sit back and let any decisions being made in this area happen without our input. BCORMA www.bcorma.ca (http://www.bcorma.ca) will be assisting the off road (dualsport) motorcycle users, to make sure they have the resorces they need. ATVBC will be assisting the ATV clubs, together we have a reasonably big voice.
So what can you do to help?
When you purchase a BC TrailPass through DSBC, BCORMA not only sets aside a portion of the fee to come back to the club for trail projects, but also fights on our behalf for these issues.
Please contact JavaJude through the forum to purchase your 2011 BCORMA BC TrailPass. Or go to the BCORMA site and join as a independent rider (make sure you mark that you want your funds to go to Chilliwack Valley)
If you're an ATV guy, please go and join ATVBC
Number one for DSBC users of this area is to get a detailed GPS map of all the trails and roads we use, I will be updating that again so we can get the job done.
I will post more information here as I get it
