Minor set back. One of our guys has lost his license plate in Chile. If you have ever lost your plate in a foreign country before and has some advice chime in please. Much appreciated!

turn around and come home.
ride without one.
steal a local plate and put it on your bike.
get someone at home to mail you another one.
stay off the paved roads and ride dirt roads only.
keep riding till you get pulled over then hand the police $20.

Make one that has all the right info, ie: matches the paperwork. Then, keep it dirty.

Thanks guys we went with the get an artist in Chile to paint you a license plate. it turned out not too bad.
Get a Police report. Most of the time you'll be fine, but at least a few borders in CA will trying and screw with you. I'd say the lack of plate has added an hour or two to every border crossing for me, and has occasionally cost me money.
I had one painted up, but I also went to the Tourist Police, reported the plate stolen, and got them to give me an official signed report with the my info/my bikes info.
Worst was El Amatillo between El Salvador and Honduras.
I'm actually in Panama right now, where are you guys? Have you planned a route through CA yet?
There's one amazing road that I'm half debating on going back for since I didn't get pics, and it was the most amazing riding I've done so the entire trip. The Transveral Del Norte, it runs from La Trinidad,(north of the Mx/Guatemala border crossing at La Mesilla) all the way east to the coast.
I can send you a copy of a map someone drew me if you'd like.
I was planning on flying back, but I"m considering riding just so I can do it again, and get some pictures. I think it would be more difficult going east to west, but if you're on proper bikes it probably wouldn't be an issue.

Thanks for the advice. Now that we look back he probably could of crossed the borders without an issue. But he has seen most of southern chile and argentina so it wasnt a big deal for him to miss it. He also had family to stay with in Chile which worked out well. And in the end he has a new bc license plate back on the bike.
We are actually in Cali Colombia right now. We are flying over the darien gap on may 10th and will be in panama hopefully by the 11th. We havent planned a route through central yet. So any tips would be greatly appreciated.
Are you still in panama?

A very unfortunate turn of events has occurred during our trip. I won't go into details.
We would like to leave Mexico to fly back to Canada but leave our bikes in Mexico. We haven't fully looked into this as we have been occupied with other things. Any information on leaving the country without the motorcycle would be appreciated.
