Last couple rides the bike has been popping severely through the carbs, starts around 3500 rpm and up and is getting worse, it pops five or six times each time I start getting on the gas and with each pop it momentarily kills the power, not like a fuel starvation bog but requires gearing down to get up hills, no popping on decelartion, bike starts and idles perfect, valve clearances are all up to spec, plug looks fine, compression is 159, fuel flow is good, I'm thinking it might be electrical since I dismantled/cleaned the carbs only 2500km ago when I installed a new top end. my question is if it's electrical which is the most likely part to cause this ? don't have a lot of cash so I'd really like to get it right, any suggestions are welcomed and appreciated !

As this bike doesnt really have any frame back there I am concerned about the weight and potentially breaking the tail off on the Hurley. Does anyone have any idea how much weight the rear end will support? Has anyone put this setup on before with sucess or failure?

We are coming up to Campbell River this weekend and I am looking for a mellow, flat looging road or fire road ride that we can go on. Perhaps with a lake as a destination (since there are so many of them up there).
Any suggestions? We want to stay away from other traffic wherever possible.

My Daughter and I went out for a Ride protected head to toe. Our stuff has vents so it's all good. Anyways, half of the People we saw on Bikes where better suited to be on the Beach than on Bikes. One Guy was bare chested.

Nothing makes me Cringe more than when I see Guys and Gals wearing shorts, running shoes, etc, on Motorcycles. And Blue Jeans do nothing to protect you. They are made from Cotton, not Kevlar!!!

Please get riding decent riding kit, for your whole Body. A full-face helmet is the only way to go.

For your Bike, crash bars.

For dirt Bikes, crash bars if they make them. Metal skid-plate and metal hand-guards. Rad-guards are not a bad idea too. Don't ride off-road alone.

Riding Bikes is a blast, but it's dangerous as Hell. Protect yourself and your Bike.

Sincerely

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Through the efforts of many in the Coalmont Community Association, new signs declaring the trail Multi-Use (at last!) have been erected on our portion of the KVR as follows:

While most riders continue to be respectful of our community, there are still a few who "don't get it" and speed through town, creating noise and clouds of dust.... If you see anybody behaving like that, please ask them to slow down so that we can keep the KVR, and indeed the town, quad friendly.... Coalmont, the Granite Creek Rec. Site, and our mulittude of surrounding trails are becoming a growing ATV destination.... Let's keep it that way....

It's virtually impossible to find decent Forest Service Road Maps online, but I found this really good one. Covers Cache Creek to Quesnel.

The map is dated July, 2008 but it's more recent than a lot of Google Earth imagery of the region

I suggest downloading the .PDF and squirreling it away for when the link goes dead.
Cheers!

Kookipi pass is now open so let's go to Boston Bar. I talked to somebody who went through Monday. There was some snow at the pass but they were able to push the bikes through it, including a GS800. The snow is melting fast and is expected to be gone by the weekend.

The plan is to meet up at The Old Settler Pub (east side of the main drag into Harrison Hot Springs just as you get to the village) at 10:00AM and ride over Kookipi to Boston Bar. We can have lunch in BB and then decide if we want to ride over the Nicoamen FSR to Lytton, or take the hwy home. There are a few short rough spots on this road but nothing that we can't get a big bike over, the rest of it is easy and scenic - a great ride.

Please post up here if you're interested.

Hey guys, coming from Victoria, I am looking for the shortest offroad route through the Sooke area, upto Weeks Lake then Kupor out through Shawnigan. It seems the water shed has grown in the last year and things are different. Basically looking to get onto Butler main upto Bear Creek Res then onto Weeks Lake. Butler main comes out onto Otter Pt Road but seems the gate is closed, atleast the times I've been there. Can anyone help? Trying to avoid going all the way out to Boyds or Anderson. On a KTM 690 so a bit of single track trail work is fine to get around some gates etc. Thanks

Long story short...she died along InterPRovincial Hwy this morning. After mucking around a bit, I discover that the airbox is FULL of gas...I mean FULL...musta drained 2 cups outta there!
Tow truck brings me home, I dis-assemble carb to find nothing.

In one day, I've lost all confidence in this machine. Couldn't find what caused the problem, so I'm not sure if I've fixed it. Makes me think twice about driving deep into some FSR.

Oh, and the stock tools you get in that crappy little pouch...they are worthless. So I learned two lessons today.

BCAA is your friend.
Stock tools must be replaced.

Anybody ever have this happen?

Hey Guys, I'm planning a trip this weekend, and would like to know if anybody has tried to get from N. Bonaparte Rd. at Green Lake down to Hwy 1 near Savona. It looks like Deadman-Vidette goes about halfway and then you have to connect with Hutchinson Road (or vice versa southbound). I'm Google Earth-ing and Google Map-ing like crazy, but can't tell for sure if this a do-able route. Anybody been through here? Thanks, John (ps, why can't I insert a line feed?)
