oshinow lake / cruickshank main area

hey guys, i'm planning a weekend trip in this area, and hoping for some more up to date info from anyone in the know.

    basic route will be:
-up from great cental on ash river rd
-past oshinow lake on br110 (3-4 yrs ago a bridge was out near june lake, maybe passable with bike)
-br118 past nimnim lake, along puntlege, connect with toma
-br31 up rough and tumble mtn.
    -around cougar lake
-generally explore cruickshank canyon, and out cruikshank main.

here is a link from someones trip there in 2006

thanks, and if someone is intersted in coming along, it will be myself (intermediate) and my buddy (more advanced) on drz's. we will plan to camp sat night somewhere.

    thanks

We did the Cruickshank, Willemar and Cougar Lake area last year and found them all quite accessible due to new logging in the area. The Cruickshank was being logged at the time so we didn't get very far but they should be done by now. Bring your fishing rod for Cougar Lake for the trout, apparantly a stocked lake and a good campsite there as well. Go up and over Rough and Tumble from there, great views if you make it to the top.

    thanks bs, sounds great.

any other tips you guys have would be great. leaving early tomorrow morning, weather looks so-so, but we've committed either way.

sat morning was fine, just misty. then around 3pm ish it opened up. we scrambled for a campsite, set up a tarp city and called it a day. whiskey by the fire time.

stayed warm and dry overnight, then sun morning was clear and beautiful. great day for riding. didn't quite get to all the spots i wanted, but will certainly go back.

-you can connect oshinow to nimnim area, the washout i saw a few years ago is now passable by bike.
-the road to willemar is an actual road now
-same for the cruikshank to cougar lake, with a few mellow "obstacles"
-as usual alot more logging than i thought in the area.

great trip and will post some pics soon. i'm all jazzed up for another now!

You guys might like the trail up the south side of Comox Lake to Tsable Lake. It used to be just a goat trail but the quad guys have opened it up now and there's a decent campsite at the lakeside.

they were burning big slash piles on that side of the lake on the weekend. wonder if it's still a trail.

another spot to check out, put it on the list.

    cheers.
