2012 Vancouver Motorcycle Show and DSBC

Its that time of year again that we should think about the Vancouver Motorcycle Show

Details of the show are Here
    http://www.vancouvermotorcycleshow.ca/endurox/
You will notice I am sending you to the enduroX page, and that's for a reason.

Questions that need to be answered

1 Does DSBC want to paticipate in the show?
2 If so, who would like to head this up and organise everyone?
3 If we find someone to head this up, what will the theme be?

My personal thoughts on the MC show

DSBC got its start with its first booth at the motorcycle show. Every year DSBC has been involved we have always done a first class job, no other club comes close to our past efforts. What else are we doing in January? This is a great chance for many or us to meet and actually spend some face time with each other. If we put in the effort we get free tickets (you gotta put in some hours). I just like hanging around motorcycles and talking to riders so you know where Im at, what about You?

If you think we should be in and can donate some hours let me know. Im sure an organiser will rise to the top if there is lots of helpers out there.

We have to make our decision soon so don't put it off
I am already working on show related business with BCORMA I just cant commit 100% to the DSBC effort, but I am always available to assist where I can.

So is anyone interested, will need about 30 people min to make this happen

I'm happy to provide a computer for the booth, to show off the DSBC site, slide shows (of member pics, bikes, etc..) as well as be able to play dual sport DVDs, etc... if this is of interest.

    Bike in the booth ?
If we're to put a bike on the booth, which bike shall we put in the booth this year ? We should probably have a true dual sport on display (DRZ, F800, etc...). Thoughts ?
(if no better options) I'm happy to offer my 690, which we could load up with all kinds of dual sport goodness - ie: GiantLoop bags, Rotopax, Garmin GPS, etc... (guess that means I'd have to clean it....)

I'd be willing to help with the set up and possibly do a shift during the show.

    Light and such!!

I don’t want to make this to complicated. But if someone steps up to take control I would be willing to maybe bring some Lights and possibly a projector or such to spice things up. I would need access to the venue early to set up and cable things. If someone wanted to build a PowerPoint we could have it playing in the background showing our playgrounds or????? Just a thought………
Enjoy the ride. Life is short!

Can't make any commitments to shifts or setup/teardown, but still have some of the stuff used in previous shows if needed.

    Cheers, Alex.

You know I'll help in any capacity I can: set up, tear down, organizing volunteers, manning (womanning) the booth, etc.

I've organized the booth for DSBC for 5 years or so and then the kind folks from Maple Ridge stepped up the last 2 years to give me break.

The cream did not rise to the top

No one has volunteered to take on the organisational end of the DSBC booth at the show

And with only 11 people volunteering to help manage the show display There are a total of 34 hours of showtime and we need at least 2 people at the booth at any time not including set up and tear down. As it stands now that means we would need each volunteer to put in minimum 8 hours, I think that's too much to ask

    Im wondering if its worthwhile?

Thank goodness for the 11 volunteers, offering what they can. Sincerely appreciated.

But there is no leader, budget, theme, shirts, etc. - and we're 5 weeks away!

    Pull the plug...

I'm happy to volunteer for an 8 hour shift. might even be able to do two. I think a booth at the show is significant (to maintaining DSBC as the folk in the know/to know re dual sporting in the local riding community). And I'm sure there' no shortage of places to put what (little) monies are available, so perhaps we should ask ourselves:
    - what do we expect to get out of this ? ie: higher profile, rider awareness, growth in the DSBC community, etc...
    - what have we gotten out of this in the past ? ie: have there been positive tangible results by attending this show ?
    - what are the costs involved, and are they justifiable ? ie: if exorbitant, then perhaps its not worthwhile, but if affordable, then perhaps this is one of only a few opps upping our presence to the ravenous hordes ?
    - is there another related entity that we could share the booth with, to minimize costs, while at the same time promoting us both ?

Thanks OFFW for your time, input and thoughts.
The motorcycle show is where DSBC got its start, so it has a soft spot in my heart. The costs, to do it right is about 1000 to 1500 bucks. but can be done with much less, but why would we be satisfied with less then best of show? Everyone that volunteers time at the booth gets a free pass so that worth 13.00 bucks to the volunteer. that does not amount to much if you have to put in 8 hours.

The motorcycle show is one place that we can meet and see each other face to face, other than the two guys from the pole that want to stay behind their computer.

Presently DSBC is beside the BCORMA booth (I wonder how that happened?) past years we have combined our space with PMWMA, BCORMA, FVDRA, GVMC and it has worked out to everyone benefit.

Im a big supporter of the MC show, I just love motorcycles, with over 4000 on this site I would have thought 40 volunteers would have been a easy target to hit. I will be there regardless, but I would rather have DSBC there too

Dont support the Grinch (skidmark) dont pull the plug

I'll put in a shift, we have our fiscal year end at work and I have to work weekends so Friday afternoon/evening would be good for me.

DSBC 2011 MC show booth details
In the interest of hoping for the best (we're goin' to the show !) I propose we determine the following (be great to hear from both the actively involved and the keyboard warriors amongst us, as this simply requires you chime in with your thoughts):
    - theme; Do we need a theme ? Are we (BC reps for DS'ing) not the theme ?
    - booth bits; what tantalizing DS goodness shall be in our booth ? (other than the obligatory, and very desirable selling of DSBC swag), and friendly DSBC folk ?

Put me down for as many shifts as you need. I'll work everyday if need be. However, at this late date the first thing we need to do is make sure that a booth is still available because there's a pretty good chance that they've all been taken by now.

I have not been to the show for a few years so I'd gladly come over and help out for a day on the week-end. If any other Islanders wanna go lemme know ,I have room for more. Come on folks lets step up to the plate.....We could still hit a Home Run!!! (At LEAST a Three Bagger.)

Well, I can't help out of course because I have my own booth to worry about.

However I thought I'd add that I would like to see DSBC there, as always. If something doesn't happen for some reason I'll have some kind of space for info and be flogging the idea of being a member (obviously for BCORMA too).

There must be more people out there willing to help? Maybe the word's not getting out?
Can you double up this thread or link it to the old show one? I thought it was kind of hard to find or at least wasn't where I first looked (the 2011 show thread).

Tom do you have the BCORMA hang tags again this year?

I'll see you all at the show right!?
