Riding around Merrit
Hey gang, I am going to be working in Merrit in a coupla weeks. I am going to take the bike. I am looking for some single track where I can ride my trials bike. Suggestions?
I'd prefer stuff close to Merrit, I'd rather not truck it up to Kamloops or Logan Lake.
thanks!

Lumbomb lake is east, about 9 km up the connector to Kelowna, there's a sign. Turn left and follow the road to the campgrounds, stay left at Lumbomb and go a few Km further. Now you should be near the power line, and trails in the area. They have been clearing out the pine beetle dead trees, so some trails are now wider. On the way in, there are some ranch roads, that lead to trails as well, the Merritt Mountian Bike club uses. The rangers are fussy about user staying on existing trails, thanks.

Lundbomb is over 3000 ft. ASL. Would it not still be snowed in. How is the snow up there this year?

Most excellent. Turns out I was in that area last year with the big bike. It will be nice to explore the little trails with the trials put-put...

Darn, I called the motorsport shop, there is still a bunch of snow. It'll be a mud pit. Not good for trials bikes.... *sigh*

I might be able to swing my work over to the OK valley. Where is there early season single track riding?

If you mean Kelowna, there is Bear Creek OHV park on the Westside rd out of Westbank.

Was there just this past weekend. Lower pits at Bear Creek were still mostly under snow. You could find places to ride around there but it was very limited. We still had a lot of fun but had to stick to only south-facing aspects, which doesn't really include any of the most fun Bear Creek single track. Lots and lots of windfall on the few trails we did try as well.
This could certainly all change in a couple of weeks of warm weather, tho.

Hey thanks for the info. Looks like I'll have to tough it out for a bit...
