All GPS but we flagged the C+ route today using red/green tape.
And there will be large 2' x3' maps to view at campsite.
(Thanks to Bones and Mikey T)
B routes will also be flagged.

As i am riding up I will take a nifty bag lunch and jucie box . Road kill may be good but i hate cleaning the mess up off the bike.
Without a little craziness, life would be very boring indeed!
As much as I voted that I'd eat road kill, a nice box lunch would be a good second![]()

Riders meeting at 0800 Saturday May 26. Arrive with a full fuel tank.
Just to clarify, there is one main route, C+, about 140 km, all off pavement.
Some parts are technical so be sure to ride with a buddy or two to help steady your bike if needed.
Carry water, snacks, a first aid kit, tire repair supplies, tools and a cellphone (generally works at high elevations)
A/B sections are optional detours from the main route.
If you encounter hikers, mountain bikers, or horse riders.. slow down, smile and wave.
There is one crossing of the Trans Canada Trail. It is imperative you walk your bike across...
Riding on the trail is strictly forbidden.
No route sheets are provided, although we flagged with red/green tape.
A GPS is highly recommended. If you don't have one, follow a buddy or be part of a group that does and knows how to use it.
Bring your Van Isle Backroads Mapbook along.
There will be a coffee/snack stop about half way at a lake... provided by the Jolly Roger Ranch.. by donation to a charity. Some gas will be available for B riders.
The route ends at Skutz Falls, near Lake Cowichan Village where you can get gas and supplies.
From there, ride back on Riverbottom Road or Old Lake Cowichan Rd to Duncan and home base, the Jolly Roger Ranch.
Or if you are fast and adventurous, ride the original route back in reverse!
You will be emailed GPS routes and directions to the Ranch a few days before the event.
If we did not receive your entry fee or waiver by now, you won't get this info.
No registrations at the event. Please don't ask.
There are two polls, one in this thread and the other in our Sponsors thread regarding lunch and vehicles/camping.

Thanks again to all volunteers..![]()
And especially to Renee and Henry (ATKnut) for offering use of their beautiful Cowichan Valley property to host this rally. Part of the proceeds will go to a charity of their choice.
The organizers of the 2012 Orca Run hope you have a great ride and enjoy the event.

From the Jolly Roger Ranch...
We'll provide a couple of fire spots. One on either side of the lake.
Other than that, we pretty much figure that we'd not allow any other fires.
Everyone will just have to gather together!
The other issue is the firewood. We don't have too much. Can anybody bring some?
The a/b splits are all flagged thanks to Rob and Scott C. We even have an A+, or AA. I just have to go out later this week and put the signs up and there is one more b split at the power line.

I'll bring some firewood and I'll also bring a chainsaw + axe. You can never be too warm.
Thanks for the heads-up Mike,

Some of my BEST MEMORIES
Came from some of my WORST DECISIONS!!!
Actually I have hauled sh1t-piles of wood on my old 650 but I am trailering down(Trailer-Queen eh?). BUT,if (or when)we run out I will take you up on the hand and we can prolly find more somewhere John. I won't be leaving Nanaimo til 5 or 6 o'clock so if you guys can save a spot by one fire-pit or another for me that will save packing the stuff too far.
Buck if you want me to pick up tents from Mile Zero I can get them any night this week or on Friday night along my way. Sorry I can't be there sooner because my damn customers seem to expect SERVICE!
Is it Friday yet?

This may only be my third Orca, but I have grown very fond of this event. It pleases me greatly to have been given the chance at a sneak peek.
The C route is off the hook, nothing boring in store for anyone giving it a go. Its as close to the dream KLR ride that I have done yet. Thanks to Mike& Mike for taking me around.
Today I was kidnapped by the pirates of said Ranch, They dragged me up and down the AA, A, B loops. All I can say is its a pirates life for me. Look forward to some amazing hospitality Henry & Renee made me feel right at home this weekend.
Look forward to seeing eveyone this weekend. Please drop by the Yellow Bus and say Hi.![]()
