    Insurance Inspections at Squamish

Squamish - Insurance compliance update: Sat May 27 & Sun May 28th at the Forest Service Road ( FSR) known as the Mamquam.

On both days Provincial Conservation Officers (CO) asked for proof of insurance. The officers were peaceful, and friendly. Both times I was asked, my motorcycle was still in my truck, and hadn't been ridin yet. , I guess there is a presumption that you are going to ride on the FSR, although you can acess the trail head without being on the FSR if you know the area, i dont think the trails require insurance.

Oh good, I hate stopping at a roadcheck and getting punched in the face by the non-peaceful type.

I don't think they can give u a ticket when ur bike is still in the truck. It's like charging someone for murder cause they poses a knife.

Doesn't sound like we are really short of COs anymore, as I've heard many times in the past, not if they have the time to enforce INSURANCE regulations.

Although a lot of British Columbia's back road FSR users feel its their god given right to use the back roads any way they wish, that includes using these roads without insurance. This however is not the case, if you want to use the back road FSRs, the rule for insurance has been around since the 70s and perhaps earlier. So this is not new. What is new is the amount of users and with that the amount of abusers have increased, this to the point something has to be done. The Government and the legitimate users can not rely on the honour system, it does not work.

You could see this coming for some time, now we are going to have the rules stuffed down our throat, like it or not.

Is it such a bad thing for someone riding a 800 lbs machine at 80 kms on a FSR, be required to have some insurance?

Is is smart to have your 8 year old kid on his PW50 riding the same road that a 120,000 lbs Logging Truck Uses?

I have to shake my head when I see young children on ATV's and Bikes unsupervised on the same FSRs with guys screaming past on 2-strokes. All it's going to take is one or more kid getting killed, and next thing you know we will have so many laws restricting FSR use, that it wont be funny.
