    Riders,

Here are the details for the one-day dual sport ride in Kamloops area on July 8th, 2006:

The Greater Kamloops Motorcycle Associatiion (http://www.gkma.ca) is hosting a motorcycle weekend July 7, 8, and 9th at the Whispering Pines Motoplex up Westside Road about 20 minutes north of Kamloops. The concept is to appeal to families and moto-enthusiasts. There will be an enduro event which will include laps on the motocross track and a loop of single-track in the woods, various motocross track events for all ages, a SATURDAY DUAL SPORT RIDE, camping and stuff like that.

If you camp, there will be $20 fee...bring your own food and drinking water as they are not sure if a concession booth will be set up by the Whispering Pines Indian Band. Washroom facilities exist but water on site is NOT potable. If camping doesn't suit you, lots of rooms in town .....
    http://kamloops.hotel--canada.com/

If you just want to do the DUAL SPORT RIDE ON SATURDAY, July 8th be at the track by 9:00 am. Departure time is 10:00 am sharp. Greg and Ged will be on hand as route guides. Bikes must be plated.

Greg Roesnik (Joker) has scouted a great loop west of Westside that will be Forest Service Roads from Westside Road, through Isabelle and McQueen lakes area, along Watching Creek and up to Jamieson Creek Road, along Scott Lake FSR to Gorman Lake FSR which brings us out at the highway just north of Barriere. Riders will then have the option of returning to the Motoplex via Westside Road or Hwy #5 and McLure Ferry (which stops running at 6:00 pm apparently). This basic route has several variations that end up in the same destination.

Maps will be provided which will highlight the route (No roll maps, GPS details or other high-tech guiding info available at this time).

Please indicate you interest in attending as this will help with last-minute map printing.

This ride will include one or two short pavement sections and be on gravel/dirt Forest Service Roads....no single-track skill required. The route had been ridden by a 650 cc and an 1100 cc w/ no problems forseen for even newbie riders who have some backroad interest and experience.

Stay tuned for a few more details....such as where we will party Friday night, route distance, and where we party Saturday night......

If enough folks want to ride Sunday, Ged has a route up to Sun Peaks and back....

How do you want us to sign up?
You have the right and freedom to not drive. The privilege to drive comes with certain restrictions.

    SPC et al,

No sign up necessary....Just show up at the Whispering Pines Motoplex motocross track 30 kms north of Kamloops on Westside Rd by 9:30 am July 8th....and ask where the dual-sport group is by the "pit" area....(look for black BMW GS [Ged] )....there will be lots of folks there for the weekend as the motocross track also has some events

We just did another pre-ride Saturday and taped the questionable route junctions.....about a 200 km ride....pack a lunch and enjoy one of the lakes along the way....

It is possible that an alternative route will be offered for any folks who would prefer a loop up through Sun Peaks...if there is enough interest in diversity.

You didn't wait long! I was there shortly after 9:30 and Ged was already there. Which coffee shop? :?

We got rained on, hailed on, little dust, little sun. Good day. Missed the turn before Mayson Lake and had to backtrack. We flagged everything.

How was soccer in the rain?

Hey, I just looked at the map and we never even got to Nobel Lake! Went to Isobel Lake and then out onto the Lac Dubois Road at McQueen Lake. After we hit Hwy 5 at Darlington, we went south to Westsyde Road at Barriere, back to Whispering Pines. About 175 Km loop and 3 hours of riding time.

    Ged/Yak,
Thanks for the ride, got back to Kelowna around 630 in time to see the Oilers stomp Carolina.

Looks like we're the only ones who were lucky enough to find the rain today, I rode back through rain showers on/off from barnhartvale until I got past Falkland, but an excellent ride nonetheless.

I liked the road up to Isobel lk, lots of trees and water and narrow windy tracks, and the return on the Westsyde rd gravel section from Barriere down to Maclure was a good addition.

Here's Ged and Yak flagging the section from Westsyde rd up to Isobel lk - nice road

If u guys continued straight up this route u would have hit Nobel(But u muts have taken the left through the steep valley and up to Isobel). From Nobel there is a really nice wooded section just like this one ur on,but not good for the BIG bikes. About 3km before this spot u can go right and up to Nobel on a verry easy road and all the way through to just past Pass lk.

    Hey Joker,
I recall the obvious right-hand turn you are describing on the way up to this point. This wooded section makes for some fun riding, lots of twists and turns and changing road surface.

By the way, we met this fellow today on Jameison FSR and he say's he's lookin' fer you, something about using his axe and leaving it covered in pumpkin innards. heheh
