OK, normally I wouldn't laugh at a noob. Especially one that is taking lessons because that is the best way to start and I was a noob not too long ago.

But I have to share this question I got from a co-worker that finally took his first motorcycle lesson last night. He is a mountain bike rider so this is what I had to realise to understand his question.

He went to his first class and the instructor showed him a bike and demonstrated the amount of play you should have in the chain. He asked "How does the chain keep it's tension when shifting gears?"

The instructor looked puzzled and said "I don't understand.". In the end he couldn't convey his question and so he came back to work to ask me how the chain maintains it's tension when shifting gears.

Can you imagine if a motorcycle used multiple sprockets as the transmission? 140km/hr and you shift gears, and the chain has to link up to the next sprocket. Imagine getting your pants caught in the chain!Man, I had to laugh.

Heard of a guy from the mechanic who liked to spray lots of chain lube up under the front cover. Said it kept the derailleur in good shape.....

This is the Bad Dog section, so we'll let it go.

Joker didn't mean to offend or type like he's a badass gangbanger. He's really a pussycat.
