I just sold my KLR650 and brought agood used 2006 Suzuki V-strom 650. Now I want to get a Suzuki DRZ400 for off road. For the price of a KTM 950 I can have both suzukies.

You have the right and freedom to not drive. The privilege to drive comes with certain restrictions.

Here's my Z1000. It feels small compared to my KLR. And then I twist the grip and the tach passes 7k, hold on...
Sigh....my street bike is my KLR...so is my dirt bike!!![]()
Good on you!![]()
Afterall, how many bikes other than the venerable KLR can cruise the #1 at 120+ and then head off on some dirt trail?
thats an awesome ride! hows it compare toa ZRX1200?

A 1984 Yamaha XJ750rl
Got it at a time when I was in need of some wheels and knew the owner, sold it to me for $500 because it wasn't running....... took me about an hour and I had it up and going. Started looking into and from what I found out they only made around 884 of these 601 or so shipped to Canada and the rest to Australia and only in 1984. Now it sits off the road awaiting restoration..... then I'm thinking of selling it.
I think the whole reason for the short prodution was because it was replaced with 900cc version, I still haven't seen another one like it on the road, though I have seen picsfrom others who have them.
zokalr13 wrote:Not sure who you're refering to, but I'll make the assumption that it's my Z1000 since as awesome as the KLR is, they're so totaly different.thats an awesome ride! hows it compare toa ZRX1200?
We just returned home from a 1200km trip through the mountains (Calgary to Relvelstoke+side trips). Given the temperatures on Friday night and Saturday, even though I haven't ridden a ZRX1200, I can say that the fairing of the 1200 would be a huge asset in such temperatures. It was cold this weekend!
I've also been informed by some 1200 owners that the 1200 engine is not of the same lineage as my Z and that my Z "needs to be reved". That may be, but I can say that I think I only downshifted from sixth twice this weekend to pass. Even at 4000rpm it has enough torque that you just twist the throttle and bye-bye.The engine is flexible enough that I only have to shift if I want to.
So, to summarize, it has more than enough power, but being a super-sexy-naked, it lacks the wind protection of something like the ZRX1200.
Here's a picture of it during this weekend's trip at the Rogers Pass summit. It's a bit dirty now.
My street ride is a cruiser but I did try a ninja 250 today. Swapped with a guy as he is thinking about getting a KLR. Hey, anything I can do to spread the faith
Let's just say I won't be getting a ninja 250. But it was my first sport bike ride ever. Yeah, big difference, and they go faster without the feeling of fast. Very nimble too. But when I took the 250 up to SFU it could only do 65mph up the hill. But then again, I'm not small. It felt like riding my kids bike it's so small. And I can see why you can't do long cruises on it. Too crunched up. I guess a sport tourer is better though.
As for the prospective KLR owner, he thought it felt high up and he felt exposed to the wind. Oh and he mentioned the vibration too. I have MT21's on though. There is another guy at work that is interested in a KLR. This KLR preaching keeps me busy

My 2001 BMW R1100RT has about 117,000 km. on it. Last year I went to Alaska, and the year before I got some nice riding in Mexico.
It's a great bike, and I do a lot of 2-up riding with the wife.
It joins the KLR in the garage.
This is my scoot.
1995 Suzuki RF600R. I've done a few mods to it, as I do to all of my vehicles. Basically reupholstered the seat with non-slip so I don't muff myself on the tank, full LED retrofit on all lights (the headlight is a PIAA 150 watt super purple), flush mount signals, PigSpotter mirrors, Kerker exhaust, twin caddy horns, full ground effects lighting.
I didn't do it, you didn't see me do it, and you can't prove a thing!
This was my scoot before I decided it was time to turn my attention to a bike that could keep going when the road stopped...
I do miss it as it was one sweet ride that had gobs of power. With all the mods that were done to this bad boy it could hold it's weight with most 750s.
I've got the 91 dr 350 which is now a 385cc and awesome by the way. A 81 virago 920 chain drive which is being chopped and almost done, and a 2007 SV650(actually wife's mother's day present), which of all the bikes I've ever owned is an amazing bike, absolutely love it.
got my 78 KZ1000 back![]()

Man, that color scheme brings back memories. I drooled over the FZR400 for a long time (I remember having the brochure for the full '88 lineup from Yamaha posted on my dorm wall up at SFU) but I never actually owned one. Picked up an '89 Honda CB-1 (CB400F) a year later, still have it, still ride it, still rocks![]()
