I am not going to go into a long winded explanation of why DSBC is changing, if you want the long version you will have to feed me an provide plenty of drink.




October 2004 DSBC started its own on line forum, we had a total of 118 visitors to the site. Less than Three years later we get over 5000 visitors to the forum and are getting 2 million hits per month on the DSBC site. Needless to say DSBC is a lot bigger that when it started and it has to change.




DSBC has been run as a Dictatorship (me), I have received plenty of assistance from many members, but ultimately the buck stopped (and started) with me. Many of us on the DSBC site have met new friends and participated in motorcycle events that we probably would not have. Without a doubt the DSBC crowd is the best.




As my last decision as dictator, I will be changing DSBC to a non-profit society. This has been something that I have been thinking about for many months and feel this is the best way for DSBC to continue. Unfortunately for DSBC to continue in its present form, leaves myself and others in a very vulnerable legal position. By becoming a society DSBC will be able to take advantage of some legal protection and inexpensive liability insurance. DSBC already is well recognized throughout the Canadian motorcycle community as a founding member of the Motorcycle Confederation of Canada, Member of British Columbia Off Road Motorcycle Association, and Member of the Pacific Northwest Motorcycle Association.




Ultimately the initial structure of the DSBC Board of Directors and how the new association will operate will be made by myself and those close to me. I have already set this area aside for the present members to add their input. I am quite aware that DSBC is a province wide association and that will play the biggest part in the final structure.




So now about membership to the new DSBC. You guessed it, it is going to cost you. For the government and insurance purposes we need to maintain a membership roster. Now with the spam bots etc they will not register if there is money involved. DSBC will still allow anyone to surf most of the site, but not all. Presently I am thinking about several levels of membership
