Hello Rock Chucker,
I am also from the Island and went to the Dead Zone last year. I was a great Ride and well organized to boot.. My buddy and I rode the "A" route and I have to say WOW I was bagged at the end of the day.. I am returning this year and will be taking the "B" route as the "A" route at times was very difficult and I must say I would hate to have been on any bike bigger than my XR400R.. One other note Jet your bike for 6000 feet.. I didn't and I paid for it all day with a studdering bike...
Hope to see you there...
I'd love to do this, entry form printed out and getting filled in =3
I'm going to try to get in on this one. I'm usually out chasing fires on the weekends but maybe I'll make exceptions this year.
I didn't do it, you didn't see me do it, and you can't prove a thing!
This weekend is just too much fun - Cheque and form are in the mail. Looking forward to riding the 'C' route again this year.
David
Hi there,
After a couple of years off i will be back in action. If i am lucky i will be riding my DR650 with custom side car.
Whats the width restriction on the B loop this year?
Any chance you will need help with the pre-running ?
Cheers
Graeme
Checks in the mail.

Yes, we will need help with pre-rides; likely starting on the Vic Day weekend.
There are several single track sections on the B that really aren't avoidable; regardless of how much difficulty that creates for a sidehack setup, any riders following will be pretty upset.
So we would need to revert you to riding the 'Scenic' route instead.

Thanks for the update, i will try and make myself available for the pre-rides.
As a total newbie I'm really looking forward to this...![]()
I'm going to this event, prepping the entry form, will send in as soon as I can.
I'm going to be bringing the camper this time, I can take up to three people, plus gear and bikes with me, I only ask for them to chip in on the gas.
Anyone coming from the Lower Mainland-ish area who doesn't mind carpooling give me a ring.

Cheque's in the mail.

This event is filling up FAST!!
Don't be disappointed, get your Entry Forms in quick.
The cut-off date for submitting your Entry Form for the 2009 Dead Zone is June 16.
The A/B Route will once again test you and your bike. Come and experience the challenges that the organizers have laid out for you this year.
For 2009 there is a entirely new Scenic Route for those riders that want to enjoy the beautifulness that is Gold country. There will be a minimum amout of pavement (to get you to the gas stop - if you need it or to bail out if you've had enough). Otherwise it's all off-road all the time along Forest Service roads and old jeep trails. There will be a number of options if you wish to try something a little harder along the way. The main route will be suitable for any rider on any dual sport bike.
If you have any questions post them on this thread or PM me, SkidMark or tomcycle.
If you've already sent in your payment check for your name here on the list:

On the internet you can be anything you want . . . . . It's strange that so many people choose to be stupid.
Sounds like great fun. Cheque and form will be going in the mail today!
Mailed today! Looking forward to another great event from you guys, thanks

I have limited range due to a smallish tank. My range including the spare gas I carry is about 150km. (if its all single track 1st gear way less, if its all easy gravel about 180). Will that be enough for the B route, is there fuel available on the route or will there be a gas drop?
Any info relating to this would be useful. Thanks....

Last year we had a p/u truck with rider jerry cans (gas drop) at the lunch stop. We're working on a similar arrangement this year - Please watch this space for details.

I'll keep an eye open for more info. I am sure I can backpack more than usual if required. A gas check would be great.

Hi,
looking for a bit more info on the Dead Zone tripasI would be travelingalone with minimal backup.
IE fuel stops, New 14 L tank but that is it.
Vehicle recovery, Just in case, back to a semi major road where I could arange pick up.
Map of planed route. So I have a general Idea what I am in for. My tires suck.
Any info would help. I would love to get involved in an organized ride.

IE fuel stops, New 14 L tank but that is it. no fuel stops on the route but you can get fuel in cash creek about 150 kms into the ride
Vehicle recovery, Just in case, back to a semi major road where I could arange pick up.you are never more than a 1-2 hour walk to a major highway
Map of planed route. So I have a general Idea what I am in for.no maps just a roll chart, its a navagational challangeMy tires suck. betterbuy new tires before you try this ride

If you never been to an organized event this is for sure one of the best ones. Just get there early say hi to a few folks and see who is riding your type of bike and loop and ask to join them...I am sure you will find someone!Hi,

Thisevent is the best introductionto back roads riding, dont worry about vehicle recovery and fuel their are enough riders out there that will help durring the ride and we can always arrange to get you out after the ride. It reads like you have little or no experience doing this kind of riding so I would recommend the C loop, lots of fun with a couple of harder options if you feel like challenging yourself.
The C loop is for new the sport riders and the bigger Dual Sport bikes like the 1200GS, It is 90% gravel roads so you will get dirty.

Well I am new dual sport trips but grew up on Dirt Bikes and snowmobiles. I haven't had this bike long enough to completely trust it yet. I have put a few thousand K on it but mostly on the highway. I think I will try out the C loop as an experiment. I know I will be able to keep up there. I know there will be lots of people willing to lend a hand if needed but I don't like depending on other people.
Thanks for the info and I will send in my money.
Cheque and entry form in the mail today. Total noob and can't wait to meet folks at the Dead Zone! Hope there's some more experienced folks to tag along with on the Scenic route. See you there.
