So aftertwo long rain-soaked days at work, it was time to unwind by enjoying somemore of the localsights on two wheels. Ripple texted me Saturdaymorning and said he wanted to do some riding. Sounded good to me as thesun was shining once again. But where to go?

I suggested to Ripple, why not rideand check out Meachen Creek Falls and White Boar Lake. Hesaidthat sounded good. Great!

We met up at the turnoff off the St Mary's River FSRto Hellroaring. After a quick chat we were off. First up the Hellroaring and turned righton to Meachen Creek (1.6 km of Hellroaring).

After a few km's of riding I see Ripple stop and looking. Whats going on I wonder? I pull up beside him and he points to the large black bear standing in the road and looking curiously at the bikes. He was likely a yearling and only a 100 meters or so away (if that). We sat still and kept an eye on the bear. At first it didnt seem to scared by the bikes. He looked at us as if to say "what do ya want" and stood still. After reving the bikes and honking the horns a few times, he decided the bush was a safer place and disappeared into the bush.

Okay on we go. First stop, Meachen Creek Falls. The falls are located down a short trail of the Meachen Creek FSR (8 km). We parked the bikes, I promptly dropping mine as I put my foot down to find open air. Wish the seat height on the KLX was an inch or two shorter. Uneven ground sucks.

Anyways we walked to the falls. Nice spot I must say.

After spending some time at the falls, we decided that it was time to check out White Boar Lake.

The lake can be reached via 4x4 road that branches off Meachen Creek at around the 16km. The road goes in approx 3.5 km to the lake and a MOF rec site. This was my first time to the lake and I must say I was impressed.

Ripple with his Yamaha XT 225. Mount Mckay looms over the lake in the background.

After the photo we drove to the end of the road and parked the bikes at the rec site.

We first checked out a small trail to the right that takes to you the nearest end of the lake.

The area is beautiful. The lake is an emerald green color and pretty clear. It sits at the base of Mt Mckay with small waterfalls coming down the mountain. At the far end sits the small glacier seen in the photo.

After snapping a few pics, Ripple suggested checking out the trail to the left of the rec area that takes you around to the side of the lake.

I was taken aback by the beauty and calmness of the area. Would make for a great afternoon in the canoe.

We spent probably close to an hour at the lake. To end the day we headed back toward Perry Creek on the River Road while exploring many of the side roads. Several go to camp sites whiles others looked more like creeks than roads.

We stopped at a few spots by the St Marys River for a breather.

Not much water here. The main channel of the river was further in the background.

Anyways that pretty much concludes the ride. We quickly checked out the Wycliffe Regional Park and then on to home. All in all a great day out. Thanks Ripple for coming along.

    Until next time..

OTG, I don't have a GPX file unfortunately. Didn't take my GPS with me unfortunately. Both areas are easy to find however. I could PM you with directions if you'd like. I can tell you that both areas are outlined in Janice Strong's book 'Mountain Footsteps'.

    Cheers

I probably have gps data kicking around. You can also see my DS helmet solution in the pics. 3 strips of coloured electrical tape make a sunshade with the visor up, lol.

Hey guys thanks for the report we checked it out last Saturday, figured it would be nice place to see the fall colours. My better half and I on the Adventure hooked up with Bubba Zaneti who rode over Gray Creek from Castlegar and we rode in from Elkford. Well we we not disappointed, spectacular colours and scenery

Was a little chilly when we left I think -5 c

The larch had turned and the colours were magnificent (Bubba's photo)

White boar Lake, sadly it was to late to check out the Falls on the way home

    Hi Bushpilot:

I just noticed your post from June 22....welcome to the group. Sorry you didn't get much response to your post probably because it was tacked to an old thread. I think if you want to get noticed around here you have to start a new thread and title so everyone spots it. There's not much activity for the Kimb/Cran area at the best of times and almost non so far this year I guess because of the snow, but it's bound to get better. I'm an old trail bike rider, originally from Kimberley...been riding most days but just prowling the quad trails in the valley, and scooting around town.

Welcome Bushpilot, I spend some time in the summer at our place in Grey Creek and like to run over the mountain to Kimberley for Lunch, etc.. I havn't taken the time yet to snoop out many of the other roads on your side of the pass, good to know you are familiar with that area, and have a little bit of time to spend with your bike. I havn't heard lately but I am figuring probably a good chance of getting over the pass (grey creek) in another week to or 2.
