    First up;
Happy Holidays and Best Wishes for the New Year to All!

Next; I just got the protos of the F 800 GS top rack finished on the 23rd. and I thought I would post 'em.

    It's got a couple of unique features;
2" fore and aft adjustment for running solo or two-up.
For extra fuel capacity solutions it has three different ways to mount Rotopax fuel packs to the rack.
Made here of course and less $$ than Touratech, SW Motech...

    More info and pics on the site here;
    http://www.motooverland.com/index_files/Page508.htm

    What do ya think?

    Thanks,
    Dave

pic with 1 gal. Rotopax mounted...

All of the front and rear and two of the side strap slots are still accessible and the Rotopax mount fits directly to the rack.

Here is a pic of the side mount Rotopax 1 gal. with the rack in the forward position.
The Rotopax L bracket mounts right to the top rack. There when you need it...gone when you don't.

    Here is what the second prototype looks like;

The "keyhole" slots allow you to take off the rack without removing the hardware making it easier to swap out mounts.

Works very well with the Giant Loop Great Basin saddlebag (and that's the Giant Loop Fandango tank bag) too! The Giant Loop bag systems work really well. Finally a way to take all your gear with you, no racks needed and keeps your moto feeling like a...moto. We are bringing all of the Giant Loop product into Canada now too. Start looking for it at your local dealer or at http://www.motooverland.com

There is also Givi Monokey top box compatibility too. That's a Givi E36 mounted to Givi mounts on the rack. The mounting hardware bolts right on. Then there is even the KISS top box mounting. See details here: http://www.motooverland.com/index_files/Page508.htm

    Thanks,
    Dave

    Hello all!
The production version of the F 800/F 650 GS Top Rack is out...just.

Pacific BMW have them now, Island BMW will have them tomorrow and Southwest Motorrad will have them by Friday.

Here is a pic of the finished MOD F800 GS Top Rack (Tail Rack). They turned out very well!

    Just to go over the features again;

-two position fore and aft adjustment for solo or two-up riding

-RotoPax top mount, top mount with L bracket and side mount with L bracket. There is a rib welded underneath the rack that reinforces the Rotopax side mounting. Side mount is for 1 gallon fuel pack only!

-Givi top box mount option. The two holes near the top that are "off on their own" are for the two Givi mount pegs. The latch block mounts into the rear centre slot. You just need to use larger washers to make the rear block work and washers to space up the two pegs. You may also want to run rubber pads to keep the box from "rattling". The E36 I put on didn't seem to need it as the contact points keep it under pressure.

-KISS top box mounting. Yup, Keep It Simple Stupid. This was the last design change to the Top Rack. Two of the holes were changed to squares which enables you to run carriage bolts from underneath the rack and through two holes you can drill into virtually any box.For those of you who don't know carriage bolts have a square section under the button head at the base of the threads. Take a Pelican for example. Drill two holes using the rack as a template, get two carriage bolts of the right length, some washers and nuts and you are done! It's easy to get your hand underneath to feed in the bolts. This way you can afford to have multiple sizes of top boxes too for different occasions. We plan to make our own hardware kits for this later on to make it a tool free operation.

    -The rack mounting slots are key holed so you can remove the Top Rack without removing the hardware completely. This enables you to swap around all of the configurations without fumbling around with the spacers and bolts. The stainless steel bolts are extra long to facilitate this. The spacers are CNC machined aluminium with a bit more shape than just straight cylinders...we couldn't help ourselves;

-Of course a full compliment of slots for strapping stuff on and the slots are lined up so that they are still accessible with the RotoPax flat on top.

-Black textured powder coat finish. Not as slippery as the smooth finish of the 2nd proto. and it hides marks, scuffs and scratches better.

Whew, I think that covers it. This rack has sooo many options and made right here in BC!

Take a look at the website for even more pics and details and check them out at the above dealers!

    Thanks!

    Dave

Hey it's Happy Holidays time again...so Happy Holidays everyone!!

I'm also trying to find someone with a Trax top box set-up. The hole pattern is the same as the front Givi mounts so it may be possible to integrate that as well...

    Thanks,

updates on the MOD F800/F650 GS Top Rack

Here's a few updates on the MOD F800/F650 GS Top Rack:

We now have available a few different spacer kits to fit some other side rack options.

The two spacers on the left are the standard spacers. The next one is the J (Jesse) spacer. On the far right is the H (Happy Trail, Wolfman/Backroads Moto) spacer.

The standard spacers fit: stock handles, Vario handles, BMW metal box side racks, Touratech side racks, SW-Motech Quick-Lock Evo side racks, Holan and Metal Mule (without using the front spacers, just washers instead).

The J (Jesse) spacers fit Jesse obviously

The H spacer is for Happy Trail and Wolfman...aka Backroads Moto.

Next up while at Pac Mo recently we checked out the Kolpin Fuel Pack Jr. and low and behold their mount will also fit on our Top Rack using two of the existing holes.

So that gives yet another option: The Kolpin Fuel Pack Jr. (1.5gal) and their mount.

I'm hopin to be at the Nubie ride next weekend with it there if you want to see it and have questions.

    Thanks for checking it out!

MOD BMW F800/F650 GS Top Rack

Lot's of new things to report on the F800/F650 GS Top Rack!

First up following in the footsteps of the KTM 990/950 Adv. & 950 SE version released earlier this year two more top box mounting options have been added!

SW-Motech Trax and Caribou's QFS System...

(BMW Top Rack pics courtesy of Fastredbike -thanks!! )

    Bare Top Rack shown here:

It's also now fully CNC machined. We've always finished all the slot and perimeter edges on them put now they're all perfect, courtesy of the CNC.

SW-Motech Trax Top Box mounting (shown on the KTM Adv/SE version)

Simply bolt their mount kit for the Trax box on our Top Rack and you're set!

Caribou's DIY QFS Universal system bolted on:
They too bolt right into existing holes we've designed in.

They make two versions Pelican and any case. The Pelican version is shown here but I'd recommend the any case version as it's ever lower profile (one plate thickness instead of two).

Easy to have different sized boxes for different uses then too if you want. Medium box and top rack in forward position.

Nanuk small box, top rack in forward position.

    ...and on the inside:

Dzus fasteners inside so a quick turn and it's off.

Once again this is Do It Yourself option and it works great!

Next up, in our on-going efforts to have our MOD Top Rack fit with everything out there making for easy installation and perfect fit, we present our newest Hepco + Becker (and Caribou) compatible spacers.

    Here's the whole line up:

All 6061 Alu. CNC machined. No heavy steel chunks here. Large top surface for maximum rack support.

The Hepco+Becker/Caribou spacers are the longest ones on the far left.
H+B raise the stock handles with spacers and their rack fits under so we needed to make longer spacers to accommodate it (and also use longer bolts). No spacers are are needed for the front and we supply longer bolts for the front and back. Easy and solid. Caribou also uses H+B racks when they sell their boxes with the racks so these work for that too.

    The fit list:

Standard Spacers (2nd and 3rd from left)
    -stock handles
    -BMW Varios
    -BMW Alu. box side racks
    -Touratech
    -SW-Motech
    -Holan
-Metal Mule (no front spacers required)

    H Spacers (far right)
These substitute the standard front ones and are used with the standard rear ones
    -Happy Trail
    -Wolfman/ Backroads Moto

    J spacers (second from right)
These substitute the standard rear ones and are used with the standard front ones
    -Jesse

    C Spacers (far left)
No front spacers are required, however longer bolts are required for the front and rear.
    -Hepco + Becker
-Caribou (using Hepco+Becker racks at this time)

Givi side racks are different altogether as they have built in a top rack to it. We have two possible solutions there too. Details pending.

You can substitute any spacers at the time of purchase or add them on top.
Of course you can buy them separately too so if you change what you are using...no problem !

    Top Box Compatibility:
Just bolt on the appropriate mounts and you're all set to go
-Givi/Kappa Monokey (we have Monokey mount kits available too)
    -SW-Motech Trax
    -SW-Motech steel top rack adapter
    DIY
    -Caribou QFS
    -MOD KISS

    Fuel Cell Compatibility:
Just bolt on the appropriate mounts and you're all set to go
-Rotopax (all sizes), right side mounting too with their L bracket
    -Kolpin Jr

Keyhole quick release in the slots facilitates removal and swapping of options

50mm (2") fore and aft adjustment to centralize load solo or make room for passenger

Many well positioned slots and cut-outs for soft luggage (works perfectly with the Giant Loop Great Basin even giving you different fore and aft set up options), all properly chamfered top and bottom (and the perimeter) so it won't cut straps.

This distances the best BMW F650/F800 GS Top Racks yet again!

All of the different spacers are in stock.

Any questions...let me know here or dave(at)motooverland(dot)com!

Gratuitous pic with Giant Loop Great Basin (and Fandango Tank Bag):

    Thanks for checkin it out!

MOD F800/F650 GS Top Rack w/ SW-Motech steel top rack adapter

Finally we have pics of SW-Motech's Steel Top Rack Adapter for Pelicans installed on our Top Rack:

The big picture. It's all plug and play. Mounts right into existing holes and all you need to add is larger fender washers for the rear centre mount.

With the Pelican mounted. Looks like they sit their set-up a little further back. It's a quick release system from the back too.

Close up of the rear mounting bracket installed.

Notice all the CNC'd edge finishing goodness on the Top Rack

    Front mounts.

The entire perimeter, every cut-out and slot, top and bottom is fully chamfered so it won't cut up your straps.

Here's a tip as well: to prevent the large steel plate that bolts on from making marks in the top rack put some electrical tape on the bottom of it. When you take it off you'll hardly be able to tell it was even there.

    Any q's fire away!

    Thanks,

    Dave

MOD BMW F800/F700/F650 GS Top Rack

For 2013 we have done a couple of refinements to the F800/F700/F650 GS Top Rack.

We have added another Rotopax mounting position in the middle that will hold the 1gal. Rotopax length-wise instead of width-wise. This was actually done late last year and done partly to fit better with the Giant Loop Siskiyou panniers and also just gives another option...which we're always keen to do

We did a slight change to the front edge to follow the lines of the bike more.

Lastly we simplified the Givi/Kappa Monokey/ SW-Motech Trax/ SW-Motech Steel Topcase adapter mounting with a dedicated rear mounting position.

Here's what it looks like now:

Of course it has the same fully CNC'd construction and therefore fully chamfered perimeter, slots and cut-outs so it won't tear up straps:

Made right here in BC of course

Ask away if you have any questions!

    Hi Dave,

Really happy with my MOD skid plate and tool tube, so naturally I'm considering the top rack. What are the chances that you have a good pic of the rack + a 1 (or 1.75) Rotopax + the Siskiyou all installed? I'm really curious to see how well they fit together. Feels to me like it would be tight. I was expecting that a Rotopax with the Siskiyou might not even be an option without a custom mount.

    Thanks,
    Chris

    Hi Chris,

Very glad to hear you're liking your skid plate and tool box!!

I have been remiss in taking pics with the new 90* centre Rotopax position so I'll have to get on that but...at least I'll try to explain it:

Turn the centre mounting position you see here 90* and you get the new position which gives you about another 5cm more space to fit the Siskiyou on:

That combined with the Top Rack in the rearward position should work well. I haven't seen the 1.75gal in real life yet but it was really just about getting more space for the Siskiyou and the Rotopax bracket, so it'll work the same way. When the 1gal or 1.75 gal Rotopax is mounted it will overlap the top section of the Siskiyous but that's not a problem.

I'll try to take some pics soon of it all set up.

Hope that answers it for you!

MOD F800/F700/F650 GS Top Rack with Giant Loop Siskiyou panniers

    Hi Chris,

Pics with the MOD Top Rack/ Giant Loop Siskiyous and the 1gal Rotopax.

First with the Top rack only and the new Rotopax 90* centre position:

    With everything together:

The Top rack is in the rearward position. It all fits together nicely and you can just access the fuel filler

    Hope that answers it.

    Thanks,

    Dave
