I actually emailed Yamaha Canada a few weeks back and got a response the next day. They said they would pass along my message to the powers that be and we're encouraged about my excitement for their machine. Don't think it's gonna happen anytime soon, and I'm sure it would only come to the states at best. I just don't see why manufacturers aren't competing with the KLR at all. Seems odd to me... it's not like there's a shortage of buyers interested in a more economical, upper-mid sized dualsport....

I talked to the Yamaha dealer here in Kamloops and they saw the bike at the dealer show in Toronto, but the cost was going to be in the $11 - 12000 range - not quite competitive with the KLR.

YOIKES.... I wasn't expecting that at all.... I thought it was going to be somewhere in the $8000 range..... okay, never mind then, I'll just stick with my John Deere for now...
