Welcome to the madness. Cute avatar.
Thanks for the warm welcome!
Welcome to the site... After a couple quiet years the North Island riders group on here has grown considerably... Keep an eye out for posted rides and feel free to tag along when it works for you....
Wow, old post. Ive been around the Nimpkish Mine and Mine Lake. Ive found the caboose or whatever it apparently is. Havent heard about rail carts/ore carts being around that site though! Interesting
Chris,
Hi Chris, Welcome to the site...
It's an interesting place to walk around and explore, lots of stuff hidden by the rainforest closing in... Also interesting to climb down the open pit on the other side of the river.. There are small trout swimming around in some flooded pits meaning the Nimpkish either floods into them during high water or some underground channels to the river exist...
If I remember right there was only the caboose/sleeper car left on the mine lake side... I think some of the iron ore cars from that era are still in use today for hauling crush... They used to haul the ore out along the rails to Beaver Cove where it was loaded to ship/barge... The labor force that worked the mine were housed at the Anutz lake camp...
Thanks for the welcome...
mine lake is definantly interesting and i havent seen all it has to offer yet. The caboose? is interesting, unfortunantly its collapsed though. I find one of the doors inside it interesting as it resembles a safe style door, although made out of wood it appears. I was told that might have been the explosives storage area when the mine was operational.
the open pit is interesting on the other side of the lake, i took a road that goes right down to the river and to an untrained eye, there seemed to be signs of the river flooding in the past, as far as i recall i dont see how water could make it all the way to the mine face but who knows.
Not much to see around the mine as far as what i found, couple peices of cement, interesting metal objected in the ground and the old bridge support ( s )? to link to the mine lake side.
Been to Suquash i would imagine?
Chris,
Only been up to merry widow once before i knew much about it. I would imagine ive missed a lot of the interesting stuff up there. Made it to the open pit mine though and that was it
