    Dropping in on Orca?

Any chance on a drop in from outsiders Saturday morning. I know registration is closed, but ... a friend of mine in Cobble Hill recently got a new KLR. I trying to encourage him to get onto some gravel with it & thought I might ride down from Campbell River to meet some of you, see if any locals might get him out on a backroad. There would be 3 of us, the KLR (Edgar), a Triumph Tiger (Fishnbiker), & a Buell Uly (Mark). We don't necessarily want to invade a private affair, so I thought I'd ask first. Maybe just meet a few at brekkie time, then go on our own ride.

BTW, I rode from Campbell River over to Mucha Bay on the Tahsis road. Dusty gravel, freshly graded with snow still at the 800ft level. 3ft of solid ground cover & the summit lake is still frozen solid. The pub in Gold River is now re-opened, passably decent grub. Terrific day!

Hi Ken. We met on last years BC Big Trailie. Yeah it's too late to register but you are welcome to drop by for a visit. Afterwards you can explore good FSR's to the west.

Pre Orca Evening Friday May 13th 2011, KickStart Coffee 1063 Canada Ave Duncan BC

We are excited to announce that we are hosting four guest speakers Friday evening May 13th From 7:00 Pm.

They will presenting a slide show and talk on their recent Dualsport Adventure, 6 weeks of riding through South East Asia on their own bikes shipped from here.

These are not professional riders or speakers they are a group of guys with regular jobs who chased their dream.
One of the guys had vey little offroad experience before embarking on this epic journey.

This should be a fun relaxed evening, good chance to ask lots of questions and learn how to prepare for such an adventure.

Very least we can all sit around and tell Orca stories.

The Event is being held at Kickstart Coffee located right next to Duncan Motorsports 1063 Canada Ave , Duncan BC. ( about 15 to 20 minutes from the Orca camp ground) You can call 250-732 -7148 the evening of the event if you get lost.
You can also call Duncan Motorsports 250-746-7148 for directions.
Hope we see everyone there for this fun evening.

Some campsite info was posted on the Information Thread.

An information package will be emailed to each entrant that provided an accurate email address over the next few days.
It will include roll charts, GPS tracks, information and tips on each route plus campsite directions.

As mentioned before, I'm hoping to drop in Saturday morning for a short visit. Is the camp supposed to be at the Koksila site? Other?

Heading to the Island for the Orca run (woo hoo !) on (this) Friday the 13th (Ooh - belly scelly !) from Van. Thinking of catching the 2:00 or 3:00 pm ferry from Tsawwassen. I'll then be following the "twisty route" to the campground, with a possible diversion (once the campground has been identified) to Duncan Motorsports/KickStart Coffee for the pre-ride slide show, and dual-sporting stories.

Any other DSBC folk care to join me for (some/all of) the journey ?

Anyone on the Lower Mainland looking to travel together Friday? I am looking at 1, 2 or 3 PM Ferrrie from Tsawwassen-Swartz Bay, unless there is a better way from North Vancouver. I have not done Orca Run before, and am looking for travel partner. Respond to email to VPN, and I will follow up.

    Regards,
    Wayne

Nope swartz bay is probably the best way to go, you could go from nanimo however that would be about 1.5- 2 hours to get to the orca, where as from swartZ bay it should be around an hour ish. So depending on Vancouver traffic and stuff . Either way is good IMO. More details will be PM or emailed ( right buck ?) This is to keep the location private i think.

    Thanks,
Ken, you can drop by anytime during the day for a visit. Best time is between 8;00 and 9;00 when the mob leaves. But a few of us hang out all day holding down the fort. Same campsite, just past Koksilah on the river.. I sent you directions.

Edit.. as posted earlier.. an info package will be emailed to all entrants by Kiwi over the next few days. Watch for it in your email.

Please check for further updates on the INFORMATION thread.

    Mike

If you're in North Van Horseshoe bay to Departure bay is the way to go. Travel south is far more entertaining on this side than through the big smoke. The Pat bay hwy in Vic also adds considerable distance. Nanaimo to Shawnigan is about an hour.

    Be happy, Chris
