Thread: Radiator temp. sensor 2004 KLR

    The wire that connects to the radiator temp. sensor that runs the fan has corroded off. The local Kawi dealer wants $90 for a replacement. Could the wire be soldered back on? Is there an alternate (cheaper) non-Kawi sensor available? Thanks in advance for any tips.

    I'm not sure of your exact problem but if it's just a wire off, then connecting it back together will solve it. You may have to connect it with crimp on connectors so you don't damage the sensor with the heat from your soldering iron.. Good Luck

    Dick, If it's part of the thermocouple then I think changing the wire (connector, solder etc,) may change the value (resistance) passing through it, which means the fan wouldn't come on at the right temp because you would have changed the calibration. Go to one of the radio places in 100 Mile and talk to an electronics tech. Or someone smarter than me may speak up here :P

    Soldering will not affect or cause resistance in the circuit. If you crimp it, then iver time corrosion can start and this will cause a bad connection and eventualy the conection will start causing you problems.

    With all electrical repairs

    Solder and shrink tube the connection.(:P)
